I doubt any answer you get on here will be useful. The only people who would know don't likely frequent Y!A. Furthermore, the information isn't likely to be public because it is sensitive information manufacturers wouldn't want to share.

abg90... is right. All the information you
have requested is not available to the
general public. I can only tell you what
I know; not what I don't. R & D can run
into a lot of money. Manufacturing costs
are determined in the quantity (and quality)
of the parts purchased for said unit. A
prototype of said unit would cost a pretty
penny, too. One could only speculate.
I would say just to come up with a fully
functional prototype would cost you close
to a half a million dollars, if not more.
