Has anyone tamed a wild bird in their yard? We have one who is very friendly and we'd like to hand feed it.?

I've read that this works but haven't actually tried it myself.

Get an old shirt and cut off the sleeve.

Sew a glove onto the end.

Stuff the sleeve and glove so you basically have a "fake" arm.

Leave it out on the porch and sprinkle bird seed on it.

The bird will get used to eating off of the "arm"

Eventually you can sprinkle seed on your own arm/hand.

You will have to sit quietly and patiently for a while before the bird will figure it out and land on your arm.

Is it a blue Jay...you can train them to take a peanut out of your hand...as far as other birds I am not sure ...I had a wild life place where I raised hawks to be released into the wild...I did have hawks that would come down when I called to get a rat or mouse but not out of the hand NOT with those talons...blue jay yes... Have fun birds are so much fun to observe....

Please leave it alone. It is probably friendly because it is young and hasn't discovered that humans are to be feared.

If you "tame" it, it will not fear humans and will probably be killed at some point because of it.

If you want a bird to hand feed, I suggest a pet bird, but wildlife should never be tamed.

You need to corner it then slide your hand towards it. Eventually it will learn it is supposed to perch on your hand/finger. Then you try to transfer it from finger to finger.

You'll probably wanna use gloves at first because it might bite.
