A question concerning glasses bought on line; see details.?

I got some glasses on line, they also sent me the fake plastic lenses that would have been in the frames if they were on display at a optical shop. Am I supposed to save these for something, or is this how they get rid of their trash?

For example, if I ever got new lenses put in these frames, would they need them for a template, or is there some other rational reason for saving them?

Thanks in advance!

They are of no use , unless it is a semi rimless frame.

In full frames a template isn't needed because the machine traces the frame, but in semi rimless, we need the left lens as a template. ( can be done with the right also, but much easier with the left )

So, if they are semi rimless and you happen to break or lose your lenses, then those demo lenses could be used to make more.

If you have a full, regular frame, then they are of no use.

As far as I know, they don't need the frames as a template, they can make new lenses based on the frame of your glasses and I don't see a rational reason for saving them but you might as well tuck them away somewhere if you want to be safe but i don't think it's a big deal if you don't

The lenses you're referring to are demo lenses. They serve no other purpose except to plug the holes where the real lenses will go once the frame is purchased. Most demo lenses have writing on the left or both lenses to advertize the frame. It is ok to discard them. The pattern (template) used to cut lenses down to size is something completely different. These demo lenses aren't sturdy enough to make original or replacement lenses with.

I frankly don't know what you are talking about but, your suggestion about a template sounds reasonable

why would they dispose of their trash thru the mail to you?
