can you shoot 5.56 ammo in rossi hvy barrel rifle?
i just bought rossi haven't got it yet in ups truck half way here ,,bought some reloads in 55 grain soft point lead but started ought as 5.56 brass i believe the ammo specs are 223 just wondering if a little hot would it damage me or rifle

Spent 5.56x45mm brass can safely be reloaded into .223 Remington cartridges, once sized and trimmed for the .223 Remington. If reloading it yourself you need to be aware that some 5.56 brass is thicker than .223 Rem. This means the 5.56 brass has less inside volume than a .223 Rem. This in turns means the max powder in a .223 Rem will have higher pressure in a thick walled 5.56 N and thus when working up a load cation should be taken when reaching max loading.

A heavy barrel should have no problems with the slightly higher chamber pressures.
However:
Your best performance (accuracy) will probably be found with .223 rounds.

No problem dude.......modern guns will handle that........hot .223 are just as powerful........
