What would you say to a person who wants to kill herself?

She is 63 years old. Clinically depressed, and has no money. Not eligible for Medicare. Just needs some support.

Send me e-mails, and I will forward them to her. Her name is Sandy.

Please have the decency to only say positive things. If you can't -don't respond, please. My e-mail is roscoedeadbeat@yahoo.com

Update:

Thank you to all. I am forwarding these answers to show her that people care. I think it will give her a spark of hope on a dark day.

You could try buying the book Shoot The Damn Dog by Sally Brampton and reading it with her. It is a memoir of depression by probably one of the most intelligent women in England, IMO. Her insight in to the condition and the suffering it inflicts is breathtaking. Maybe if she reads this book it will help her to at least realise that she is not alone in her pain, in that millions of others feel the same about life as she does (me included at times).

I don't understand exactly how the US healthcare system works as I am from the UK, but is there absolutely now way she can obtain proper mental health care from somewhere? If she is suicidal could you suggest that she is sectioned in order for her to receive the help she so desperately needs? Or maybe there is a free support group in your area she can attend to see if this helps?

I feel dreadfully sorry for her as I know something of how she feels, having suffered from several bouts of depression over the last 15 years. I hope you find help for her soon. She is lucky to have your friendship.

God gave her this life because He knew she's strong enough to live it!
