When you think you've heard of every nutball act of cruelty that someone can do...?

...someone comes up with something worse.

A mass poisoning of horses in San Diego: http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/08/01/california.hor...

This gives us all a new reason to be suspicious of people we don't know giving our horses treats.

I hope they catch the person and prosecute him to the full extent of the law!

... Or cutting the flesh from a live animal for a 'steak'.

... Or outright slaughtering the animal without rendering it unconscious (after breaking into the barn), stealing the meat and leaving the carcass for the poor owner to discover

... Or bears or lions riding horses

... Or using bicycle chains for bits.

Ghandi once stated "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated”

    'Nuff said.

Oh my God! That's horrible! What's wrong with the guy? People are so...sick! Like the ranch owner said- if the perpetrator was angry with him, they could have done something to HIM, like slash his tires or egg his house (not that they should, of course, but at least it's better...) than to try and kill some innocent horses. Especially since the owner probably doesn't actually own all the horses!

My aunt lives in San Diego!!! And she's got horses there! I'm so freaked, I'm going to call her and make sure her horses are all right!

    Ah, not oleander!

Why would somebody do something like that?! Honestly, I think some people have no conscience at all.

And to another poster, has someone REALLY cut flesh off of a live animal for steak?! That's terrible!

I just cant even begin to say how upsetting this is. Indeed, no strangers are to be trusted with "treats"!

They better catch the freak before I do. What I want to know is why this person was allowed around the horses? Surely the owner of the stables noticed something.

what a freak! How can people even think about doing that to innocent animals. We should feed him rat poison until he starts to suffocate and dies. I'm so sick of animal cruelty. The laws are getting tighter and they are doing more to stop it but it only seems to be getting worse. Every time I hear or see something like that, I wish I could punish the person who did it myself. It sickens me that people can do that. Jeez what is wrong with the world?

i have an arabian, whom was treated cruelly in the past owners shows they would enter him in. they would scratch his butt hole and make him bleed, then rub ginger in the cuts to make him hold his tail higher. then, when they heard that we stopped showing him because of his past, they came over, and tried to poison him, and all our other horses, by giving them some shots. they actually trespasses into our barn, and gave our horses shots. luckily we got it all on our barn camera, and they were prosecuted for animal cruelty, trespassing, and a whole bunch of other things, and for all the horses, they are fine, the people didn't give them enough of the shot to hurt them, and i thank god every day that they were not smart enough to get away with any of this.
