Is it true that most of the cars being bought in "Cash for Clunkers" trade in are foreign?

By that I mean Honda, Toyota, and Nissan to name a few that are being bought when the clunker is traded in. I realize that the government refers to them as foreign. However, most Toyotas for the U.S. are built right here in the U.S. unlike Ford and GM that build vehicles in Mexico and Brazil but still like to call the vehicle American made.

Sounds reasonable. That is why the additional monies were probably cut off if the UAW wasn't going to benefit from the car sales. If most people didn't want to buy a GM, Ford or Chrysler, this is the result. After all, you have to keep your political donations coming in from the UAW if you are Democrat. Keep in mind if you are a Republican and buy a Ford, GM, or Chrysler you are making a donation to the Democrat Party.

Yes, over half of them. "The Transportation Department said about 80,500 transactions had been processed under the clunkers program as of Saturday, the end of its first week. Of those, 47% involved vehicles made by GM, Ford or Chrysler, the administration said."

"the top five cars that were bought were the Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Prius and Ford Escape"

GM, the company that we had to bailout, didn't fare well with cash for clunkers, instead their competitors did.

My heavens, I never have been flashed, but I did unintentionally flash a few folks once. I was in the hospital some time back and decided to take a stoll to the vending area. Well, I wasn't thinking about what I was wearing and, let's just say that those hospital gowns don't leave a lot to the imagination on the backside. The nurse came up from behind me and put a blanket over my shoulders . . . I was wondering why it was a little drafty back there!

I am not sure how to answer this, I don't know if you know it or not, but if you purchase a Saturn, it could have been built in one of their plants in Mexico or Belgium. If you purchase a Toyota, it could have been built in one of 8 plants here in the U.S. including the newest one in Mississippi.

That is why the part of the original bill stating that you could only purchase a car from the U.S. was removed.

So while most people think of Toyota's as being made in other countries (which they be) and they think of Saturns as being built in the U.S. (which they could be), the exact opposite does occur too.

No. The Ford Focus is so far the bestselling car due to the program.

The "Buy American" provision that the Democrats originally had in the bill was dropped due to opposition from the "free trade advocates."

Yes 6 out of 10 are foreign. Most foreign car companies have manufacturing facilities here in the US including BMW and Mercedes.

Yes it is............Ford was up there too. GM and Chrysler lost out. The report came out today. The so called "foreign" brands may have manufacturing plants here in the States...........BUT that money goes BACK TO THEIR HOMELAND where their headquarters are.

Some are from "foreign" companies. The reality is that most cars sold in the US are MADE in the US. Also note that other countries are running similar programs that benefit US companies operating abroad.

    YES

Here it is right here (see: SOURCE)

I just bought a $33K Toyota Venza all wheel drive wagon that is made in Kentucky. $4,600 of that came from One Term Barry's boondoggle Cash For Clunkers program the rest I paid in cash

Gee thanks Barry. You are still a dipshit.
