Is there unemployment protection for the immigrant workers over USA?
If you go to work legally to USA for at least 1 year what rights do you have if they don't renew your contract after that year??how can i get same rights i have here now in Portugal concerning unemployment protection?I already asked this question but seems was not clear enough...will they give me time to look for another job?thanks!!
Please anyone can answer my question?i really appreciate some help!!!
Thank you for your answers. So basically USA exploits the immigrants and then sends them back to their country without any reward?OHH GREAT.I am disappointed now with the so great country of USA.I have a good job here as a Music Teacher and i also have my rights for unemployment if i need.I was thinking about accepting this job proposal just because you have a few degrees i cannot take here...now i think i'm just going to refuse!Good luck for you!

No. I am pretty sure that if you come on a visa, hired by a certain company/empoyer, and you lose your job... The U.S. would expect you to leave the country within 30 days.
In the U.S. non-citizens do not have or get the same rights when it comes to employment or unemployment.
edit: You can't blame the U.S. as a whole for the bad employers who exploit the workers they hire. Especially when both the immigrant workers, and the bad employers tend to exploit the U.S. system.

If you lose your job you are required to leave the USA within 30 days. Your work visa is only good for work at the company that employs you. The work visa does not allow you to find another employer.
Most employment in the United States is "at will." This means that either the employee or the employer can sever the relationship at any time with no reason needed. There are no "rights."
The United States is unlike Europe in this way. We don't have government protection of jobs. This is one of the reasons the United States has grown at over twice the rate Europe has since the end of WWII and has, historically, had much, much lower unemployment.

It depends on your visa. Some Visas require you to return to your country if the company that sponsors you terminates your job.
At this time there is not much protection for foreigners working in the US because we have very high unemployment.
Also, companies that bring foreigners in on Visas have to prove that they could not get an American for the job. Also not likely in this economy.
