Can cockatiels be gay?
I have a 5 1/2 year old hand-fed male cockatiel named Goliath. He had a "mate" Daisy who died. He was lonely so I bought another hand-fed cockatiel Athena. Well, Athena turned out to be a girl, so its Athens. These two get along very well.
Here's the problem....
I bought 2 females so they could each have a mate. Goliath hates them, Athens is ok with them, but the males clean each other, and the females clean each other. They dont seem to care for the opposite sex.
They are in an aviary with parakeets, and Goliath actually helped raise one. Why wont he be a father with the female cockatiels?
Athens is a boy, sorry I did a typo
I have no problem with it, dont get offended. I just want to know if he will ever be a father or at least get along with the females.

I have no problem with gay birds either! And yes I think it's possible for them to be gay, but I'd say it'd be more of a mix up with the hormones sparked by the bonding between them, rather than the desire to have sex with the same gender.
You should be happy to have your sexes unattracted to each other! When they are trying to mate it's just chaos, because they will fight each other and chase each other all day long.

It is important to remember that 10 percent of ALL species are gay, have always been in history, and always will be. There is nothing wrong with man or animal being gay. It has been normal since the beginning of time. Dogs are gay, cats are gay, there are gay birds, and gay insects as well...10 percent across the board for all species. This is why the hatred and misunderstanding of homosexuality is insidious. For every one of those who hate it, have it in their own genes, and in their own family.
