Perfect 'mirror image' writing in a 5 yr old....?

When writing/drawing on her own my daughter asks how to spell a word and looks at the letter while writing it... but the word and letters are sometimes perfectly reversed when she finishes.

Is this a concern at this point or just a curiosity? Is this very common? I'm trying to remember if my older child did this when he was learning to write.

Update:

For what it is worth... she doesn't realize it is backward until she is told and she is right handed.

It isn't uncommon at all. It doesn't necessarily mean she is dyslexic. A lot of 4 and 5 year old children do this. Usually it corrects itself without a lot of effort by the time they are 6, though many children continue to reverse individual letters until 7 or 8. The b and the d and the number 5 are common reversals. Most likely, she is not that aware yet of concepts of print, meaning how print works - that you start at the left continue to the right, sweep back to the left at the end of a line of text, that letters form words left to right. Do this, next time you are reading a book with her, ask her where you start reading. Then ask her where you read after that, and what you do at the end of the line of text. Ask her to show you the first letter in a word and the last letter. Even when children understand the difference between a letter and a word, they may not be as clear yet that you read those letters and words in the left to right order. When we read "cat" we start with the left of the word, c->a->t. If she doesn't have a strong concept of directionality and print yet - and many 5 year old children don't - just make it a point to show her where you are reading, which direction you're going in etc. It can be casual, you can point to the words as you read without even saying anything. If the reversal continues past 6 and she has a good understanding of how print works, then I might consider an evaluation.

The brain still has undiscovered territory. The light enters the lens in the eye and turns it upside down. The brain learns to switch it right side up. I am a bit of a dyslexic where I some times have problems with numbers. Mostly when I am tired. I am excellent in math and yet my brain will switch numbers when I transfer them from reading to writing. I believe my math ability stays in the head and gets lost when I tell my hand to write it down, cause when I read what I write I can see it is not what I intended to write and I do not know how that happens. I can see a young child making these errors as the brain needs to learn, but I am *ahem* over 50. . .My younger sister has the same problem, so it can be genetic. . .(No one is perfect I guess). I do not believe you have to worry yet. . .good luck.

When you yourself have an issue to helping your child that has trouble examining, no real matter what era she\he this program is the thing you need, Children Learning Reading from here https://tr.im/Ij4Zr .

Children Learning Reading is different from different applications since it generally does not depend on training phrases by view, a way that depends on children realizing and memorizing phrases by their content and structure. You may have observed (or also bought!) classes that promote full word recognition learning, these courses usually need you to remain your son or daughter before a tv or computer check for a substantial timeframe so as in order for them to learn phrases which will let them to begin their reading journey.

This includes the mirror image. You might want to have her tested. My daughter had phonic dyslexia and we didn't know it tell she got to collage. She is very smart and did fine in school. She had to work harder than most children. But many dyslexic people are highly intelligent so often are diagnosed in there adults years after many years of frustration. If your child has this its wise to get help so that she does not have to go through all the frustration. Learn as much as you can. There is so much you can do.
