How often do horses need to be shoed?

All I know about horse shoes is they are lucky. But I met someone who has a share in a race horse. They get billed every month for shoeing, even when the horse is not in work. Is this normal?

As a retired farrier I trimmed and shod horses every 6 weeks. Give or take a bit. If there was any major corrective work it might be more often. Hope this helps.

    Yes, it is normal.

My horses see the farrier every 6 weeks, but that still comes out to pretty much every month.
