Jeff410 is right but that "3" ranking is just the year to date performance. You get a better idea of how it compares with it peers buy looking at the 3 and 5 year ranking. Also, you need to know if it has had the same fund manager over the time period you are looking at. A change in fund manager is important to know, because a fund may be doing very well under one manager and not so well after a new manager takes over.
