Monochrome is technical name for Black And White, in relation to TVs. Some monochrome computer monitors used green or orange phosphors, rather than white a B&W TV set used.

A Monochrome TV receiver is one that has the CRT an associated electronics, tuner/channel selector unit, and sound system in one box, typically called a TV set.

External TV tuners, at least for NTSC or PAL 625 were color receivers; the display ignoring the chroma signals. UK 405 line TV was all monochrome.
