Can you tell me about wigs?

Okay, so, I hate how thick my hair is and how expensive it is to go get it cut properly at a salon. I used to buzz the back of my head down to a quarter inch or so every month or two and just wear bangs (like this: http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v260/1... ). Only problem is, now I work in a pretty conservative office, so I can't wear my hair like that.

Solution: a wig! Unfortunately I don't know anything about wigs and I was hoping someone here would be able to help me. What should I look for in a good wig? What can I absolutely not cut corners on? Where is a reputable place to buy wigs? Any advice on wigs in general?

I really appreciate any help, I'm dying to cut my hair off and I really don't want to spend $50 on a haircut every 6 weeks any more. Thanks!

Update:

I'd go for a cheaper haircut, but I just can't. I've tried going to Cost Cutters and I'm always incredibly dissatisfied with what I get out of it because my hair is just so so thick. It's pretty common for my stylist to go through two razors and thin my hair four or five times with different techniques to make it look decent, and you can't expect that kind of thing from a bargain haircut place. :(

I don't think this is going to be the solution your after. Wigs require maintence just like hair. Good wigs with 100% human hair are also very expensive. Artificial wigs are inexpensive but have to be replaced often. My advice, try and find a more affordable haircut!

Looking for in a good wig-

It depends if you want synthetic hairs or real hair.

Kanakalon fiber is good for synthetic hair.

For real hair, just look for how it looks on the model, it if looks real or not.

You will NEED a false scalp on your wig. It will make it look a lot more realistic,

and you'll need a wig cap, in a shade very close to that of your wig's.

Amphigory is good for buying synthetic hair wigs, but I haven't found anywhere to find good quality real hair wigs.
