Dolphin Holocaust on Far Oer islands?
How is it possible that Danish "humane societies" protest against bullfights (bulls were raised for killing and matadors need enormous skills and risk their lives) bu they keep strangely silent about the mass killing of dolphins on one of the Far Oer islands (Denmark) This senseless killing is organized once a year and is done by tens or hundreds of men nor even as a sport but as an event to attract tourist!! The bay is colored red by the blood of hundreds of dolphins. They are not even killed for food like the whales by the Japanese. And Denmark this first world country has the gall to protest against bullfights. Disgusting!
It is precisely because this forum is about TRAVEL and the dolphin holocaust is organized to lure tourists to TRAVEL to the islands.

1) The pilot whales are used for food and they used to be one of the major sources of protein for the people of the Faeroe Islands. The pilot whale killing is an ancient tradition, that is has now become tourist attraction has not changed anything, except the numbers of onlookers.
2) While Faeroe Islands do belong under Denmark, they are self-governing.
3) The killing of the pilot whales is now done with special, large knives that usually kills the animals with one stroke, so compared to other whaling methods, it is as humane as it can get, unlike bull fighting.
4) The pilot whales are not an endangered species. If they were, I can guarantee you that the killing would be either stopped completely or limited.
...and finally, no I do not agree with the killing of the pilot whales. While it is done as humanely as possible, I still think the boats and the blood stresses them too much before the kill - and yes, it does look horrifying with all the blood, but looking at it logically, there's not that much difference between this and the slaughtering of cows, sheep, chicken or pigs for food - and at least the pilot whales have had a good, wild and free life before slaughter.
Personally, I prefer to use my energy and righteous indignation elsewhere.

How is it possible that you mistake a TRAVEL forum for a POLITICAL forum and ask inappropriate questions in entirely the wrong place?
