We do not have magistrates in the USA, we have Judges!
All judges are basically the same and all will need to be called either Sir, Ma'am, or Your Honor. Depending on the sex of the judge. Just remember respectful behavior in a court of law is more than important because this could mean the case, same goes for in public too because far too many people have forgotten what etiquette is these days.

Yes ..there are Federal and State Magistrates ....but an entirely different thing from the UK for instance
Source(s): In the UK ..they would be address as 'your worship' - JSLv 41 decade ago
Your honor should do the trick.
scatterbrainedgenius: Do not attempt to correct unless you are correct. Many jurisdictions call their county/local judges magistrates or magistrate judges (D.C. comes to mind).

'Your Honor' will do just fine - afterall, whether you face a Justice of the Peace or actual Judge, they all like '"your Honor.'
P.S. Avoid calling the magistrate 'judge' or 'Mr.', 'Mrs.', 'Ma'am' etc.
