I put my dog down on Friday. How do I cope?
He was such a good baby.

Everyone would have a different answer to this question. You need to decide what's best for you.
I'd recommend that you think about the good times you had with him, and not the time you will spend without him.
Even if he's gone, the happy times will remain until you are too.
Remember that putting him down would probably have been the best option. Rest assured that he is happy wherever he is.
Some people also prefer funeral services. That may bring some needed closure.
May all beings be well and happy. Hope this helps!

The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
and pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this--the last battle--can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
Don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
What is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer, so.
When the time comes, please let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me til the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
it is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close--we two--these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Initially you don't, you just feel really sad. It's a really hard thing to do, we just had to last year as well. We were a mess for at least the first week or so, and we still think about him every day and miss him.
Wait out the first week then really all you can do is keep yourself busy. It'll get easier but it'll take time.
I'm so sorry for your loss.

think of all the good times he brought you. always think of the positives. after about 2 weeks it becomes easier. you'll never forget him. carry a picture around, could help as well. take care.
