What gear ratio do you prefer for different fishing applications (cranking, Jigging, topwater, ect)

It took me awhile to get the ratio right for my style of fishing. I reel fast, some would say I look like a crack head in need of a hit ( my wife said that). I played around with different reels and feel comfortable with the 4:'s and 5:'s because it slowed me down to where a fish actually has a chance to get to the bait. A lot of people miss that point about gear ratios, it has to suite the person and their style to help them fish better, not about the speed in which a lure is cranked in.~good luck catchin'.

I usually go with a 5:2 and if I want a slower retrieve I just spin it slower. For cranking and topwater which is primary spinners and etc I use a 5:2. For bait fishing and jigging a 3:2, but again a 5:2 will do.

6:3:1 ratio in a Baitcaster is in my opinion, the best overall gear ratio.
I use 7:3:1 ratio reels for throwing Buzz-Baits & Spinner-Baits, and occasionally Crank-Baits.
I use 5:3:1 ratio reels for Jigs, Big Plastics, and for slow-rolling Spinner-Baits.
6:3:1 is used for Top-Waters, Mid-sized/small Soft Plastics, Crank-Baits.
