car title in florida- what can I do?

I bought a used car from private owner in Jacksonville. I put car on car hauler and took to Pensacola. He mailed me the title, and it has white out on the section on the back where he puts who he sold it to, date and price. His signature is plain, no whiteout. Anyway, how do I get it titled? Lady at DMV in Florida says I can't unless I can find him. I can't find him. Is there no other way?

Well, you could try going to a different DMV office without the title and telling them that you bought it without a title or receipt at all, it was a quick side-of-the-road cash sale, and I think that in that case they do a search for the VIN number to make sure it's not stolen, and then they charge you to make up a new title?

    Good luck!
