100+ Pound OLD Cast Iron Sink Install Suggestions?

Ok we have this beast that needs to go in the kitchen. We have the iron bar that goes in back...that the sink hooks to.

Any suggestions for reinforcing the cabinet or wall? We have a concern for the formica counter and the cabinet under.

and

Any suggestions for snugging it in back? If we put a 2 x 4 over the rock ot attach the bar it will stick out.

How the heck did they put these beasts up?

It's an old bib back. Like this http://www.noreast1.com/pc0032.JPG 24"w X 17"h X 221/2" Depth

Any thoughts are welcome !

the iron bar that goes in back...that the sink hooks to = this is a good thing it is the only way you can mount them

If we put a 2 x 4 over the rock to attach the bar it will stick out. = don't do this, use the bar with the brackets

find the studs and use a horse shoe shape bracket made out of cast and attach the bar to the studs with lags, that way it doesn't stick out from the wall, it should be flush or only up to 1/4" gap

the wall should not need reinforcing, if it does you need a new house, our bath sink is one similar and we strapped to a single stud

How the heck did they put these beasts up? = takes three folks to mount it on the wall and you will still smash your fingers so be careful

We have a concern for the formica counter and the cabinet under. = the sink should and must support itself if you are going to fit a cabinet to it, the formica may have to be recut to accommodate the sink, we had to dismantle the cabinet and reassemble it around the sink, twas not a easy task

remember to putty the bottom of the sink, so the water doesn't rot the cabinet and don't forget to caulk the bib for the same reason

unless you have brick or cement wall behind the sink the weight needs to be held up by the lip. i would suggest getting and exact hole for the sink and then building a frame inside the cabinet. ( if you have nice cabinets or no room i would suggest a different sink ) remember water is 8 lbs a gallon, so that might be 150 lbs.
