Things like stress, illness, hard training in swim meets, diet changes, lack of sleep all can affect a period. When you are younger it is something that is not established yet when you have the periods vary sometimes it's normal. As you get older they get even weirder, trust me sometimes you don't know if you will still have one some months in how it behaves. It is not that predictable or regulated always. It has a mind of it's own, the older you get the more you wonder what's going on sometimes. A period usually can be normal still from 21-35 days range. There are times it will vary and then go back to the way you are used to having it before. Not all women are 28 days, not all last the same amount or have the same flow. There are times when you go through changes that your body adjusts to and skip a period even when it makes no sense.
