What is the Hadith all about?

I understand that the Hadith is an expansion of the Qur'an, but i can't figure out what it says, or who wrote it. also, what inspired the writing of it? can you help me out?

    the hadith is what the prophet (pbuh) said and at that era people found his sayings important and recorded them. his hadiths are to direct us to the right path.

    Peace be upon you. The Hadith is not an extension of the Qur'an. It is a the recordings of what the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) supposedly said. They are basically traditions and are not a part of the Holy book.

    Well the Quran is an actual holy book that Gabriel told Muhammad to remember (since he couldn't write it himself because he was illiterate). Anyway, he told these other guys to write it, yaddy yadda yadda.

    Anyway, the Hadith however is the actual events around Muhammad's life.
