In view of the Tim Donaghy revelations, isn't the NBA more like professional wrestleing then a real sport?

Update:

I persoanlly will never look at the NBA the same. To me it is entertianment with great athelets just like pro wrestling, but not really sporting events.

Update 2:

Donaghy says that particular players are targeted for penalties, and that refs have been encouraged to insue that major maket teams advance. His comments indicate a systemic practice, deciding the outcome of games and championships based not on ahtletice ability etc. but applying th rules according to bring about a particularly previously decided outcome. Donaghy was able to hit by gambling on the games to the tune of 70 to 80 % accuracy.

Update 3:

SAC KINGS RULE, I'm addressing you in particular, didn't you lose a cahmpionship to the lakers - a majormarket team ... are you surprised by what Donaghy said?

Update 4:

baudkarm ... do you believe a disguntled former MLB player Jose Canseco, who started the steriods controversy by writing wired ... I didn't but ... well ... how is this different?

Update 5:

Let's face it the NBA is fake ...

Update 6:

He also said that the officals were encouraged to advanced high market teams. this is systemic. It explains why the kings did not advance against the lakers in 2004. The NBA needs a complete overhall for them to have any credibility. To me they are like professional wrestling.

Update 7:

I am not blaming the players at all nor their abilities. Iverson is a great player. He doesn't speak very well, but you cannot argue his ability. He willl never be an anouncer, but he is a great player. The Kings -- well -- the best team did not win, and that was probably the last chance they had. For great atheletes to play their hearts out and lose becuase the NBA executives wanted to earn more media money ... well?

Update 8:

This is a big storey and the NBA needs to be cleaned up. We will see how interest in the NBA suffers with regard to this revealtion and book. Baseball is legit, manny rameriez lost 50 games and money this year. If he gts caught again he's out.

The NBA has no crediblity with me, until the execs are identified and banned from the league.

Update 9:

I will not watch or support the NBA in anyway, until this is addressed. They need to clean house. We need to know how far back this goes. I know they were suffering finacially years ago and almost folded. This is a big storey.

what Tim Donaghy was saying was that if a player was giving the officials a hard time, they'd be "taken care of" by other officials the next game. He mentioned T'ing up Rasheed Wallace with no hestitation carrying out a personal vendetta from a previous game. He also mentioned Allen Iverson getting more carrying calls (due to personal vendetta). Ron Artest was mentioned as well as a player that got fouls called against him that weren't correct.

Obviously some NBA games were rigged (keep in mind a rigged game doesn't have to have a certain team win, just cover the point spread) but I think most NBA games were officiated fairly. I think the Lakers/Kings playoff series in 04 was rigged and I think the NBA players that refs held a personal foul against had a higher chance of getting a "poorly officiated" game.

    No, that is just stupid

There has been cheating in all of the 4 major sports - in soccer, tennis and the list goes on.

Doesn't make it right, but there has never been any proof that a team lost an NBA game they should have won based on a fix being in. Points were shaved to meet spreads in Vegas - but never to the point that it changed the ultimate winner.

Revelations, or made-up stories? There's a ton of evidence.. game results, actual point spreads, etc... that Donaghy is blowing smoke.

Myself, I'm kind of skeptical about the allegations of a guy who has been to jail and is facing a million dollar lawsuit from the NBA.

No the steps the NBA is taking to keep it's integrity are very good.

    Idk.

He said that he always was against Allen Iverson - great, that's why my team, the Nuggets, didn't do good when he was with them. lol.
