Why "yield sign" is an inverted triangle?

Does it have a special meaning why "yield sign" is an inverted triangle?

    I don't know but here's my guess. An upside down triangle isn't really a triangle just like yielding isn't really stopping.

    It's road sign standards they have adopted. Inverted triangle mean 'yield'.

    Like a stop sign is always octagon and a diamond sign is always some 'warning' like road construction ahead.
