Peter was to be the founder of the Christian Faith, per his command by Jesus.

Jesus could NOT have been the founder of Christianity. Jesus made no point to start a new religion, but start a new way of life. Jesus came to show how a personal relationship with God can be obtained without the need of the Priests. Jesus showed that one can and should come before God everywhere, not just in the Temple.

Jesus came to revise the Jewish faith. He left charge of the changes to Peter.

You are using the term "Rock" as having 1 meaning. It has 2.

The Rock (as the basis of your personal spirituality) is Jesus.

The Rock (as in the foundation "beginning" of the new way called, Christianity) is Peter.

You fail in your example of 1 Cor. 10. You do not reference verses 1-3 that give the backdrop or scriptural context as it applies to verse 4. You are using the texts (cherry picking) to fulfill your own purpose.

That, is a "sin".

Mat. 16 was speaking about Jesus' choice of the leader of the disciples after his death. Verse 18 clearly states Jesus' intention.

It take years of education to fully grasp the complexity of the scriptures. It would appear, you have not committed to that education.

i think if they were going to be logical, they wouldn't be christian in the first place. there are many many many things that are flat out demonstrably wrong in the bible, but christians will either ignore it (if they've even read it), they will find some twisted way of explaining it away, or often will simply claim "it is not for us to understand".

clearly, they do not want to think, what they want is the comfort that some omnipotent father figure who coincidentally has all the same values that they do, loves them, is looking out for them (though only according to his very mysterious plan), and will save them from the terrifying inevitability of death so they can exist forever.

they just believe what they want to believe. whatever is convenient, and ignore the rest. there is no point arguing, you're not going to convince anyone through three paragraphs over the internet. unfortunately.
