Photographs are copyrighted. Food photography is a specialty niche and the artists are proprietary, as is their right. You might want to start experimenting with your own camera. Look through cooking magazines and food blogs for inspiration.

Surely if you are publishing a book you can take the time to have some real photos taken of the recipes you are trying to sell?
Dashing off a few recipes, sticking some pictures from the internet on, and getting some vanity publisher to print the resulting mess, is not "publishing a book". Not in any sense that won't get you laughed at.

Can I publish a cook book and just clip your recipes?
Of course you can't just steal the pictures off of google.
Matter of fact, it would be easier for me to use your recipes, since a recipe can't be copyrighted, than for you to steal those photos.

All pictures are copyrighted as soon as they are produced. The question is whether the copyright owner would force you either to pay for or quit using their material. But I agree with the person who said that you should only include pictures of your own dishes. At best, it's kind of misrepresenting your recipies to use pictures of dishes prepared by others--at worst, it'll make you look really dumb.

You can purchase pictures online from Stock Photography pages. Depending on what you are looking for they are not that expensive and you will not be breaking copyright laws. Photographers sell the pictures to the stock photo company they in turn sell them as stock photos to the public for exactly what you are doing. I Stock Photos is a good place to start

i don't think that you do have to take your own pics... because i was looking up some pics on google and it said, "image may be subject to copyright".... yup that is exactly what it says... i just checked. so my guess is if it is a puicture of food than you should be okay.
