What sort of glue should I use for this craft project?

My mother-in-law gave me a foot-tall plastic horse. It is white and has been played with by children, but in good shape otherwise. I want to cover it with beads in various patterns. But which glue works best on a plastic surface like that? It is fairly slick so I need a glue that will adhere to the plastic as well as to the beads, which will be plastic, glass, wood, and metal. I need advice from you expert crafters out there!

A glue gun will work the best and not that expensive.

Hot glue. This will be fast and adhere well to any surface.
