The air mass sensor is located on the front end of the throttle unit. Just where the air intake hose connects...

Your Mass Air Flow sensor calculates how much air is coming through your air intake, and helps the fuel system calculate the air:fuel ratio in your engine. Without it, your fuel economy will degrade heavily, and if your engine doesn't have a proper air:fuel mixture in the cylinders, you could do some serious engine damage, possibly even cease the function of your engine, as your air:fuel mixture is what provides combustion. without combustion, your engine is just pile of metal and plastics. This should NOT be an expensive fix to replace, and it could have broken from mishandling, from wear and tear - or from someone mishandling it. Get it replaced, it's a minor problem, but can cause major damage.
