When (if ever) do you think books will be replaced with Electronics?

These days,

almost everything that's not electronic is being literally "converted" into an electronic version of it.

But anyway,

when (if ever), do you think that textbooks and the rest of the books and reading materials will be....Electronic....not on paper.

Wouldn't that be easier?

Instead of carrying a fat Algebra textbook to school, you would only have to carry in a light... sort of tablet PC.

Anyway,

do you think that Electronics will ever replace books?

I don't have physical books ever since I got out of college. I have pocket pc's that can read e-books. Some whole books are already in pdf formats and I have a lot of gadgets that can open any kind of electronic media. I guess physical books will be gone in less than 2 decades. Nobody will buy an encyclopedia right now if you know Wikipedia. The only reason why there are still physical books is that famous books (i.e., Twilight series, those of Brown, King..etc..,) is that people have this feeling of collection and they like the idea that they can physically have a connection to something.

    Clear skies!

I think you will see physical money disappear before printed books do.

All transactions of exchange of value situations would be handled digitally, on a server somewhere.

I don't think the written (or printed) word will ever be completely abolished, for documentation purposes, most things typed up and entered and stored on servers on in electronic devices can be hacked and altered. I knew a kid in high school that reprogrammed his calculator so that when you hit the plus sign, it would take the cubed root of the number on the screen

Why is this an Astronomical question?

It is pretty hard to replace a star map with an electronic device when you out in dark sky sight and your eyes are dark adapted. The last thing you want is some electronic gadget to light up and spoil your vision.

Its a possibility but I can't imagine a world without books. I think it could happen in the next thirty years. But books have been around for a LONG time and it would dost a lot of money to turn all textbooks into electric things...So I'm going to have to change my prediction to 70+ years. I still can't see a world without books.....

definitely no longer. The paperless place of work has been a promoting and marketing concept of laptop companies for extra advantageous than 20 years. once I administered an information generic utility product time-commemorated as CEO some 20 years in the past, their promoting confirmed almost paperless workplaces. They concept 8-line digital mail messages and straightforward word processing might end the cascade of paper. at present, we use extra paper than ever as workers print each and every sort of documents.

I hope not ever. Looking at a screen to read a book would discourage me from reading, it hurts my eyes. I love books.

But it just might, look how we went from stone to paper... We might even use microchips way in the future and just put it in our heads, lol.

It's possible but books will ever cease to exist. They will always have a special place in culture.

When computers are small and portable enough to carry around with you with as little effort as you would need to carry books.

Most portable book readers today are a little expensive.

    DUH

    Electronic books are already available

    Kindle from Amazon and others.

wide spread acceptance is the Q.

Mechanical printing rapidly replaced hand copies

Pay a little attention to current events
