Pet name "beautiful" appropriate for acquaintences?
I'd like opinions on this. If a guy greets a girl with whom he's somewhat acquainted, with "Hey, beautiful," is this attractive or flattering to girls, or would most take offense and think "Umm I have a name!" Just want opinions.

To me, it all depends HOW you say it and what you do as you say it. If you're checking out her chest or legs as you say it, or looking her up and down, or saying it a slimy kind of way: "Hey.....beautiful...." (sneering grin), then I would be annoyed, if not repulsed. If you make eye contact and keep it light and friendly and just pop out with "Hey beautiful!" in a cheery way, and then move your focus to other things, then I would be flattered.
I had an acquaintance who used to say "Hey Beautiful" in emails. I was totally fine with it until he started changing it. By the time he got to "Hello My Lovely Rose" I was freaked out and ended contact. So be careful, lol.

not possessiveness but maybe hes using that word because hes seeing someone else...he will say that or sweetie or baby so he doesn't confuse the names. i may be wrong but i dont think its possessiveness. Just ask him why he says that and if hes right for you he wont lie. or just tell him you dont like being called "woman" and hopefully he stops and if he doesn't then just dump him and make him realize that he should have stopped. Hes probably just not good enough for you! :]

Totally depends on the nature of your relationship. If a friendly acquaintance said this to me I would like it. But if it was a creepy weird guy I would be grossed out.

Lol i wouldnt be annoyed. I honestly would like it.
From anyone really and it would be nice from my dad. Idk about the mailman or uhh someone like the principle at my school...lol that would SOO WEIRD!!
...but if a guy teacher said that to me walkin into the classroom...i'd be a lil freaked out at the fact that he knows my appearance soo well.
But if my guy friend said that to meee that would be sooo cuteee. aww. :) Or even a dude in my classroom that i feel like im accquainted with. YES!! i find it very flattering! ...but in the end he SHOULD know my name.

they will be VERY flatterd unless someone dosen't know you and you just come out from the blues and say that they will probably think you are some pervert looking to get some. but other than that girls will be flattered and somewaht be attracted to you. sometimes not all the times but sometimes.

RaGS sez : well, my senorita is a Mexican. If I said "Hi, Beautiful!" to her, I'm not 1,000% sure that she'd fully understand me. So, rather I say, "Chica Linda!" or "Lucia Linda!' or "Hola, Cookie!," or sometimes I'll even say, "mujer magnifica!" or "la mujer bellissima del mundo!" She understands these expressions quite well, and she's always happy to hear them! The only problem is that I don't understand them! Can someone in Y/A land educate me? And Please, please, please!! Don't report my answer!

It is an assumption of intimacy and that can make us feel uncomfortable. Not only are you projecting a deeper relationship on her but making an impression to others. It is awkward. We don't want to be rude or make a seen, but we don't like being cornered like that.

It would depend on how you said it and how close I felt to you. If you were very charming I wouldn't take offense.
