Wouldn’t it be great to find a job working from your computer at home and actually getting paid for it? There are a lot of scams out there, but this eHow guide will steer you in the right direction to finding a real job.

While job searching you will most likely find that many jobs require online applications. Most online applications require a social security number(SSN). How do you know it is safe to use a SSN on a online application? How do I prevent identity theft when using a SSN online? Does not answering the question or giving the wrong social security number hurt my job application?

    Step 1

Make sure the website page you are putting your social security number into is secure. Look at the url. at the top of the page, secure website pages will have a padlock sign before the url. Look further into the url. Url's that start with [https://]means you are on a secured page; if the URL starts with http://,/ you're not. You will want to look at the page they want you to put your information on, not just main website pages. Never give your social security number on a job application if the host does not provide a secure application page.

    Step 2

Avoid randomly give your social security number when applying for a job online. Many scam artists pray on job seekers but setting up fake online job applications to harvest social security numbers. Always do research on the company to make sure they are a legit business before giving out any personal information.

    Step 3

Never think you are fooling anyone buy giving out a fake social security number. A couple years ago it was kosher to "make a mistake" on typing in your social security number and then when you got the job to fix your mistake. This is no longer excepted. Most employers will do a background check on potential employers before being hired using the social security number. If the number is wrong the employer will move on to the next candidate for the job.

I am not from NY but go to Monster.com or Careerbuilders.com and you can search for all kinds of jobs there. If there is a particular place you want to work for then go to their website. Most company websites have an employment section that you can check out and they will have a link to either apply online or directions on how to apply for the position.

The economy is really tough in new york right now. Alot of people are going to run out of unemployment benefits. Most of the people who do have jobs are 50 and over. I would suggest Marshalls and target because they are hiring people around your age.

Basically its a compilation of jobs and if you see one you like, it takes you to the website where you can apply.

    Good luck and Happy Holidays!
