Can I file my taxes as being single if I'm actually married?

My fiancee and I wanna get married so she can make more money while deployed for our actual wedding. I don't want anyone to know, but my dad does my taxes and he can't know. We wanna get married soon so I can get on her insurance. Is it ok?

First off - no. That would be fraud.

But on a side note, there are so many other things wrong with this.

    A) You should not be getting married solely so your fiancee can make more money. My fiance is in the military too, so I know how it is. But getting married in a hurry for that - that's a bad move and you are just asking for problems further down the road. Marriage isn't something to be taken lightly or rushed into.

    B) Keeping a secret like that from your family is childish. If you are old enough to be getting married, surely you are old enough to tell your parents.

    C) Good luck keeping a secret like that one. Marriage records are public and your families are not going to be pleased (they will likely be hurt and angry) when they find out you lied to them and hid your marriage.

If you file as a single adult and you are a married adult, you are putting yourself in LEGALLY JEOPARDY. The Internal Revenue Service does not like to be misled or fooled.

no, you have to file married (joint or separate return)... if you're worried about your dad finding out, I would suggest filing your return yourself, but if you know that your dad would object there must be a reason for it. Your parents are there for a reason: to give you guidance and support, so if you already know that your dad would be against the idea, maybe you should take some time to consider why.

No because it's illegal. If you're old enough to get married, there is no reason you aren't old enough to do your own taxes. Your families will find out at some point before you even mention it to them. It's not wise to start off your marriage with lying to anyone.

nope. You can file as "married filing jointly" or "married filing separately" but if you're married, you're married.
