why does my tenor sax play flat unless I use a really shallow,tight embouchure?

    If it is the instrument that is flat you will have to go to repair and perhaps shorten the mouth pipe

    Because you have the mouthpiece out too far. Or the reed is not in far enough... or your instrument is just very flat.
