The truth is that you need a much better Linux than Ubuntu, an Inspiron normally depending of configuration uses either an Intel card or more probably a Dell minicard which is actually a Broadcom card u can use Ndiswrapper in linux but in ubuntu very tricky to configure or better the NATIVE LINUX WIRELESS WL DRIVER works perfectly probs is that it contains patented and copyrighted components and is integrated in the KERNEL. Why don't u go for a superb paid linux like Mandriva Power Pack 2009.1 that is on sale now and includes ALL THE PROPRIETARY DRIVERS. including Nvidia and Ati ones!

Sure u can download driver from internet but RECOMPILING A LINUX KERNEL IS ONLY FOR EXPERTS. u paid Vista a fortune why not give a try to a great paid linux

go back to vista and see if you can find a driver for ubuntu and dl that and install it on your ubunto partition. that should work
