How loud is a helicopter inside the cockpit?
If you could please let me know the decibel level inside the cockpit of a helicopter.
I'm talking about one of those helicopters that take you on a tour over glaciers in Alaska. Or a helicopter similar to that.

I've only ever flown in a Bell 47 with no doors. LOUD does not begin to describe the noise. You have a basically unmuffled piston engine directly behind your seat plus all the drive transmission noise. And then there is the sound of the rotor head and the blades. There are no doors and there is definitely no sound insulation. My pilot was wearing earplugs and a headset at the time. I just had earplugs.

I've flown in a couple of passenger helicopters (e.g. Sikorsky S76), and the sound level was loud enough that you couldn't really talk to people. Not painful, not likely to immediately damage your hearing, but definitely not conversation-friendly.
