When you give someone something for Christmas do you expect for them to HAVE to give you something back?

Im just curious to what you guys might have to say because me and my friend are debating about it!

she thinks it "customary" that you have to give something back cuz if they wasted money on you, you have to waste money on them too. or something like that but i just think its selfish! cuz its like she demands something and if she doesnt get anything then she might as well not give you anything at all.

i think thats its completely selfish! i think that if i give you something its completely your choice and option to give something back. i think that if i give you something for christmas the only thing i should get back is my own self accomplishment knowing that i gave you something and im happy!!

so what do you think?

would you always want something back?

or

you could just careless and just know yu gave them something?

=]

I don't know why so many people act as if they're angels or saints. Of course you do expect something. It's been happening for all mankind for centuries. Ever since evolution came about, giving and receiving has been tradition. I don't care who you are and if you're the happiest person alive, you cannot honestly say you can exempt yourself from tradition and not expect anything in return. Even if people don't admit it, at the back of your head you expect someone to surprise you with a gift in return and will be surprised yourself when one doesn't show up. So don't give me that "Christmas is about giving not receiving ", crap again because you know you don't believe it. At least most of you don't.

Dude Christmas is about giving and not expecting to get anything in return. Sometimes you do get something in return but you shouldn't ever expect anything back.

Nope. But i do feel really awkward when they give me a present cause i dont get pocket money and not old enough to get a job.

JEEZ. Why are people so damn moral?

    Of course you expect it.

    Everyone expects it.

IMHO if you don't get anything in return, it's plain rude... unless the person in question hasn't bought any presents because they cant afford it... that's understandable.
