physics problem HELP!?
A wooden block is cut into two pieces, one with 3 times the mass of the other. A depression is made in both faces of the cut, so that a firecracker can be placed in it with the block reassembled. The reassembled block is set on a rough surfaced table and the fuse is lit. hen the firecracker explodes, the two blocks separate. What is the ratio of distances each block travels?
Please show me step by step, (minimal or maximum) work of how to do this. I want to learn.

Using conservation of momentum we have that m*v1 = 3m*v2
So the ratio of velocities is v2/v1 = 1/3.
Now the kinetic energy of each block will be reduced to aero by the frictional work.
So K smaller = 1/2*m*v^2. For the larger 1/2*3m*(v/3)^2 = 1/3the K of the smaller. So the work for the larger one is 1/3 the smaller one. Therefore the distance will be 1/3
