what do you think of my story so far?

i'm fourteen. is it any good? the two main charters are Janessa and Derick it switches between their points of view. here is the beginning....

Janessa

When I was I little my dad would always ask me, if I had to travel across the universe and I could only bring one person who would it be? Even though then I was six and now I’m fourteen my answer has never changed, my best friend Derick. He would be the only one I would want to come because he is a genius he can fix anything. Also, he is determined to reach his goals, if I every started to give up he wouldn’t let me. I swear he would kill himself before letting me give-up. Above all else he can make me laugh even when I’m feeling my worsted. He was the only one able to make me laugh for weeks after my mom died. So last week when my dad told me he needed me to travel back to Earth to get an invention that would fix our food problem, I knew exactly who I wanted to be the one to come with me. Derick.

Derick

I met Janessa, when I was six. I had just moved to Tanithea from Earth. My dad wanted to make more discoveries, unlocking the full power of the brain. He figured if we moved here he could not only do it with fewer distractions but met more scientists that would be willing to help him. Like me, after he makes up his mind you can’t change it so we packed up and left the planet. At the time I swore he was going mad. Till I met Janessa, her dad was a scientist to so we were on the same boat.

Our dads began to work together not only on unlocking the brain’s power but making spaceships easier to fly. When they could finally unlock more brain power successfully, they did it for Janessa and me. They made me extremely smart and gave Janessa the ability to move objects with her mind.

Now at fourteen we are closer then brother and sister. I would go to the ends of the galaxy for her, so when she told me she needed my help traveling back to Earth, it was given that I agreed.

Janessa

Derick and I decided that he would fly the spaceship. Then I can fire the missiles with my mind if we’re under attach and do anything else like that that requires emendate action. With only a few hours before we leave, he is teaching me a few last minute thing about the ship.

By this point I feel like I know the ship inside and out. I’m no longer listening, as I realize again way almost every girl on our plant has fallen for him. His lightly tanned skin the color of caramel, his dark brown eyes that seem as deep and endless as the universe, his prefect face, and his tussled hair so dark it’s almost black.

“Janessa, are you listening,” He teases, “or are you secretly as obsessed with me as every other girl here?”

“I think you just have a big head!” I joke, “Sorry what were you saying?”

“No, it cool I think I’m just repeating what I’ve said before now anyway. Do you have everything you need for our latest adventure?” He asked.

“Yup, all packed! You?” I laugh at his casual reference to what we were about to do. Both of us turn our heads as we hear the doors of the small ship open.

My dad standing in the door way calls to us, “Hey kids, everything is set on the ship, for you to head out. If you are ready you can go.”

My eyes met Derick’s he looks ready, I see the courage in his eyes and suddenly I know I am too. As we abroad the ship my dad is babbling on and on about where everything is and to remember to wear our suits if we have to get out of the ship for any reason.

“Dad,” I tell him, “we’ll be fine.” I smile at him reassuringly.

“Mr. Magneta, we’ll be cool. You can count on us you know that,” Derick said, being serious now.

“I know,” my dad says. A single tear rolls down his face.

I will make it back. I promise myself. He has already lost my mom I can’t take myself away from him too. I pull him into a hug suddenly, realizing what I’m about to do.
