I want to purchase a domain name, but godaddy.com tells me it's unavailable?

they want to charge $70 to basically find out if it's for sale, and then negotiate a rate, from the way I understand it. But, when I just type in the site, in my internet address bar, it comes up with a Bing search. How do I go about getting that particular domain without paying godaddy.com $70? I assume there are other places out there that I'm overlooking. And I apologize if I sound really remedial, I'm a beginner.

Someone else must have it registered. Just because it is registered, does not mean there is a web site at that name yet (or ever)...

The reality out there is , every day Millions of new website are being resisted, and all the English words in the dictionary has been taken and used as domain name, when i started my music website i didn't get the name Music so i tweaked the name to Musiczz and that name was available and i got it registered with http://www.xnynz.com/

All domain names have a expiration date, if the owner does not renew the domain. Then the domain will be put up for sale again.

You can check the WHOIS database and see who has the domain and when it expires.

You cant, if a domain is already registered then someone else has it and you cant get it, you'll have to pick another one. Just like with phone numbers, if someone else has the number, you cant have it, unless you offer them a big price for the number and they agree.
