A mouse would be the best pet! They can be put in a tank or cage. They are very easy to care for, and you do not have to buy them toys or food. You can make all their toys, and look up online about how to make your own mouse food at home from human food. You'll have to buy their bedding though. Aspen shavings, carefresh (recycled newspaper) or newspaper based pelleted timber bedding. Never use pine or cedar, they can cause respirory infections in mice, and all rodents.

Make sure you get 2 though, they are social animals and like company.

They are very cute, and are nocturnal, so when you are at school or work they will sleep and not be wanting to play with you when you are at school or work.

I would definietly suggest getting a mouse. They love to play and explore new things. You can give them tiny cardboard boxes, cardboard toilet rolls, paper, cardboard and cardboard egg cartons for toys. They love them all.

If they are legal in your area get a ferret. They love attention, are funny and fun. They can be potty trained and leash trained too. I love my sweet girl ferret, Pearl. Make sure it is spayed and bathe it often and it won't smell musky.
