Why are some people so obsessed with religion?

Question

I would really like to know why there is always some fanatic Christian (or Catholic or whatever) who is trying to "save the souls" of every non-Christian no matter where you go. I'm not trying to put down people who are Christian, but in truth I have never seen a non-Christian try to "save" someone.

These people are just one reason why I absolutely detest religion. Is it really so bad that someone follows a different belief? I am a LaVeyan Satanist, FYI. I enjoy my life exactly the way it is, and I don't need some crazed fanatic trying to "save my soul" everywhere I go.

So, back to my original question:
WHY THE **** DO THESE PEOPLE EXIST? DO THEY THINK THEY ARE SERVING A BETTER PURPOSE BY ANNOYING THE CRAP OUT OF EVERYONE? OR CAN THEY NOT HANDLE KNOWING THAT SOMEONE WOULD CHOOSE A DIFFERENT RELIGION?

In the traditional "hellfire and damnation" Christianity, the followers usually believe that *only* those who believe in Jesus are saved, while those who don't aren't. So, in their eyes, they're just trying to help prevent people from going to hell forever, I think. However, with some people, they can get abit harassing in their approach, as not everyone believes as they do. In other words, I think they may have good intentions, but they come across in the wrong way sometimes (as harrasive and judgemental).

At least in Western world, it's not like the Middle Ages anymore though, where corrupt governments, using religion as an excuse, could have one tortured and/or executed for daring to think differently (if Apple existed back then and they made clockwork computers, I think they'd have to have a different slogan then).
 
Personally, being in the New Church (Swedenborgianism) school of Christian thought, I don't believe in the automatic damnation of non-Christians, so I'm not out to force my beliefs on others. I do like to share them with those who are interested, but again, I try not to force.

Now, as for why people are obsessed with religion in the first place, I think it's a result of the "big questions", such as what comes after death, meaning of life, etc. (if that's what you were asking)

because some people actually care about their life and their religion unlike some others who just wanna live the good life. they're just trying to help you ( ps. im NOT a christian )

you see some people believe tht changing someone to their religion would mean rewards to them 
after death.......there are only two missionary religions in this world Christianity and Islam the others u can change into but they dont care if u do or not there is only one religion tht u can not change into
....... leagally and it is judaism......u hav to be born a jew.BTW;MISSIONARY MEANS RELIGIONS THAT TRY TO CHANGE OTHER PEOPLE INTO THEIR RELIGION
