What materials are good to paint on with acrylic paint?

I'm looking to buy something, and paint it, as a gift for Christmas. I've done some gifts already and I've used wood, which I know will stay. I was thinking of painting a mug, but will it just come off in the dishwasher? I've always thought paint on glass looks lovely, but I'm unaware of its compatability with acrylic paint. I'm just making sure so that I don't have any surprises tomorrow when I buy something to paint. Thank you

Acrylic is actually plastic, and will peel off any non-pourous surface. Any pourous surface will work- unfinished wood, bricks, any fabric- only I would prep the surface with gesso first. Gesso is like paint primer- usually white- that grabs the paint and keeps it from absorbing so much into the material. Colors will be brighter and easier to blend (canvases that you buy ready made from the art store are already gesso-ed). Once you are done painting, I would then finish it off with a clear spray varnish, to protect the paint from moisture, scraping.

    on a canvas!

i always paint acrylics on a canvas.

as far as i know (but im not sure, so dont really take this advice lol) Acrylic paint is designed to be soluble in water when wet but insoluble when dried. So it can be scratched or scraped off but it won't wash off.
