Should I scan file extensions with my paid AVG in windows xp?

In checking tools in Avg, I'm assuming by default, it is not checking file extensions. Is this a good thing? Or should I uncheck that feature and have file extensions scanned?

    Yes have ALL file extensions scanned, they could hold virus's
