Finger foods for 8-month-old?
My wee girl doesn't have a single tooth yet, but we'd really like to give her finger foods. Where to start? Our ped was adamant we wait until one of us has taken a child safety class. The Gerber Puffs insist baby must be crawling on hands and knees with belly raised. She's *almost* there. What do you suggest? Thanks!

Your ped has some very strange ideas.
Your baby doesn't need teeth to eat finger foods.
SHe can eat anything she can pick up, put in her mouth and gum up. Fruits, veggies, pasta, rice, egg (if no allergies), cheese, etc.

Don't need teeth or be crawling for puffs. My 8 month old has been eating them for a month now. Rice rusks are available in the baby section at walmart and are perfect for toothless little ones. They dissolve fast and my little one loves them. He also does well with the wagon wheels from Gerber and likes slobbering one plain old regular toast out of the toaster. You don't need a safety class just use common sense and always keep a close watch while she is eating. If you are worried, you can probably look up some first aide choking examples on youtube. I have taken classes as I used to work at a daycare, but it is all quite simple and easy to learn.

my son is 8 months:
he eats the gerber puffs: loves them
he eats all the same food we do now, favorite finger foods: cheese, pasta, bread, veggies, fruit, chicken. He loves being able to feed himself.
