Christians, what's your favorite Martin Luther quote / saying?

Christians, what's your favorite quote from Uncle Marty?

Update:

You never know Moondogg,

There maybe a few Catholics that have a favorite quote from Luther.

Update 2:

Truthbearer,

Obviously, nothing holds a candle to the Holy scriptures yet to take an isolationist view and not read anything else written by believers & to view all other teachings as merely being man-made doctrines robs us of the ministry the Lord does through His Body. And frankly it isn't Biblical. Paul said God placed teachers in the body to build and edify it. (Eph. 4:11) If we ignore them, we are ignoring what God is doing. Yes, some is not of God and discernment is required but to cut ourselves totally off is to cut ourselves off from the work of the Spirit. God raises up men & women to help teach and shepherd and guide His people. The Bible teaches that the Bible alone isn't enough. God gave us the Bible but He also gave us people and some of those are His teachers. Even the disciples were called to teach. Why would God suddenly stop using men to feed His sheep?

"Either sin is with you, lying on your shoulders, or it is lying on Christ, the Lamb of God. Now if it is lying on your back, you are lost; but if it is resting on Christ, you are free, and you will be saved. Now choose what you want."

Martin Luther fought in opposition to the Catholic Church in his later days he lived an imbittered existence, and stated a few matters that have been very improper. In that day many females did die in childbirth and it used to be terrible as it's in these days. David in Jesus care and prayer in precise salvation and happiness as a substitute of bitterness as a substitute of cursing within the darkness, mild a candle and provide a few mild

I am afraid that the schools will prove the very gates of hell, unless they diligently labour in explaining the Holy Scriptures, and engraving them on the hearts of youth. I would advise no one to send his child where the Holy Scriptures are not supreme. Every institution in which men and women are not unceasingly occupied with the Word of God must be corrupt.--Martin Luther

Martin Luther wasn't perfect. But how many Christians will stand firm for what they believe, shunning the traditions of Man -- even if it means being burned at the stake -- once convinced from Scripture and Scripture alone?

"Unless I am convinced by the testimonies of the Holy Scriptures or evident reason (for I believe neither in the Pope nor councils alone, since it has been established that they have often erred and contradicted themselves), I am bound by the Scriptures adduced by me, and my conscience has been taken captive by the Word of God, and I am neither able nor willing to recant, since it is neither safe nor right to act against conscience. God help me. Amen."

    God bless.

    1. For in the true nature of things, if we rightly consider, every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold and silver.

    2. Faith is a living, daring confidence in God's grace, so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times.

    3. I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God's hands, that I still possess.

    4. If you young fellows were wise, the devil couldn't do anything to you, but since you aren't wise, you need us who are old.

    5. Let the wife make the husband glad to come home, and let him make her sorry to see him leave.

My FAVORITE of the ones listed:

    6. Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in springtime.

..spoken to the rich land owners, when they went to Luther against the poor folks who could not pay their rent, " wield the sword without mercy."

Proving he still had the Catholic murdering spirit and showed no mercy. This confused those who had heard him teach, grace/mercy. He went right the opposite when in actual practice, preferring the rich over the poor.

So, I personally, stay with what Jesus, Peter, Paul and Scripture teaches. No Catholics, Lutherans, or other man-made doctrines for me. Herein lies my safety and salvation.

    I'm torn....

God writes the Gospel not in the Bible alone, but also on trees, and in the flowers and clouds and stars.

Whatever your heart clings to and confides in, that is really your God.

...when the devil accuses us by saying: You are a sinner; therefore you are damned, we can reply: The very fact that you say I am a sinner makes me want to be just and saved. ... Indeed, by calling me a sinner you are supplying me with weapons against yourself so that I can slay and destroy you with your own sword; for Christ died for sinners. Furthermore, you yourself proclaim the glory of God to me; you remind me of God's paternal love for me, a miserable and lost sinner; for He so loved the world that He gave His Son (John 3:16). Again, whenever you throw up to me that I am a sinner, you revive in my memory the blessing of Christ, my Redeemer, on whose shoulders, and not on mine, lie all my sins; for "the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all" and "for the transgression of His people was He stricken" (Is. 53:6-8).

Well, seeing as how some 72% of Christians are Catholic/Orthodox, I highly doubt that "Christians," in general, will have a favorite Martin Luther quote. You'll probably want to re-address this questions to Protestants (Lutherans in particular).

Even though I am an atheist, I have always found this quote to be funny

I feel much freer now that I am certain the pope is the Antichrist.
