How to tip bartender?
How do you tip a bartender? Not how much to tip but what is the process of tipping a bartender exactly?
If i order a beer for $3, do i give the baftender $4 and tell him/her to keep the change?
Or do i give the bartender $3 and then hand over another $1 and tell them it is a tip?
Most of the time i do not see a tip jar so i am unsure how to tip the bartender exactly

Best thing is to run a tab and leave an adequate tip 15-20% at the end of the night.
Most establishments price their beverages to accomodate a reasonable tip, without dealing with loose change. If you're paying 33% per beer, he'd better be giving you damned good service ;)
Saying "thanks" when paying drink by drink, the bartender will usually take this to mean no change needed.

Bartender tips work just like any other types of tips. The going rate is 15%. However, if I go to a bar or restaurant, I always tip 20% if the service was outstanding.
In your case, if you just want to tip a $1 on one beer, you can either hand the bartender the 4 and say "keep it" or you can leave it on the bar. Don't bother telling the barternder the $1 is the tip, thats kind of tacky.
I have never been to a bar where the tip jar was in reach of the customers. The tip jar, if the bar has one, is always behind the bar and used to pool tips to be shared with other employees.

If the drink is $3 and you hand them $4, you just say "Thanks" with a little nod. Saying keep the change is kinda amateurish and excessive. Now, if the drink is $3 and you hand them a larger bill, then you take your change with one hand and in the same motion, quickly deal a single off the top with the other. Again... just "Thanks" is all that's necessary. It's best to tip while you're drinking since they will be more likely to look for you to get you your next drink a little quicker. If you wait until the end of the night, you may not get as good service than if you tip as you go along. Also, they may only think of you as the guy who stiffed them every time they got him a drink and they might not know the money on the bar is from you. If you're getting mixed drinks, supposedly, giving better tips will get you stronger drinks.

T-o I-nsure P-romptness There are certain rules when going to a bar. The first is know what you want, second have the money in your hand. A bartender is a below wage employee that counts on tips to pay his bills. Everyone is entitled to earn a living. When you go up to the bar and its 4 deep, he needs to move the line. When he is quick to move the line, he will make more money and everyone is happy. When you buy a round of drinks, know what to order, have a fifty hand it to him and leave him a $10.00 tip. You are done and he will be on you all night, so you wont have to wait. Anything more than a 10 wont get you anymore attention anything less will keep you at the back of the line.

Give the baftender $4 and tell him/her to keep the change. They will probably already know that it's a tip though if you didn't hand them a $5 bill.

If the bartender is on an uneven surface apply force from the high side.
Otherwise place a wedge under one foot and continue to increase the angle.

Hand her/him the 4 dollars and say thanks.I always hated "keep the change". A dollar a drink is cool.
