Running a marathon on a stress fracture?
I have a marathon Jan 10th and have been running on a stress fracture for quite a few weeks. I was told that if I take it easy, I can run the marathon. Will I be able to race normally again by the summer if I run it?

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!! I ran as hard and fast everyday trying to improve my speed and endurance and ended up with severe shin splints in both legs.Foolish me couldn't take a hint and ran through the pain,a few months later I thought I was getting use to it,I was wrong .There was a 1/2" spot on my shin that hurt when I touched it,more than hurt when I ran on it.I knew at this point I had a stress fracture.IT TOOK ME 10+MONTHS FOR THE FRACTURE TO FINALLY HEAL,for a while there I thought I gave myself a life long problem.Shooting pain down your leg is no fun,I was lucky,I could have easily broke it and ended up wearing a cast and have lifelong shin problems.I SPEAK OF MONTHS OF RECOVERY,PAIN AND HEAR I AM CALLING MYSELF LUCKY,that is the risk you pose when you push your body too hard. Please don't do it,I wouldn't want anyone to go through a long recovery like I have.

Run the marathon AFTER the stress fracture is completely healed! Whoever told you that you can run a marathon while you still have the stress fracture is completely retarded as you'll be out for quite a long time if you don't allow yourself to heal properly! Take some time off to let your legs get back to normal and then resume your training. There's no need to kill yourself over running a marathon because frankly, you're not running for an Olympic gold here.

eeek. That really sucks. A stress fracture can take months to heal so truthfully u shudn't run the marathon but if u do I think u may be able to run by summer. However, it will probably put u out for months afterward n ull get outta shape n hav to start all over during summer. I'm pretty dedicated n stubborn so I would probably stupidly do the marathon, take advil, tape my shins n feet, and run. So if it means a lot to u...idk..its ur choice. But a marathon is longggg n it can hav devastating consequences 4 ur future running career. My coach actually is against us running marathons because it takes a whhile to fully recover n its bad 4 young ppl since they're still growing. So my final answer is:NO dont run.
