Sony LCD Projection TV about 5 years old. Picture slowly getting darker. Need new bulb or something else?
Sony KDF-60WF655 I knew when I bought this TV that I would have to someday have to change the user-replaceable bulb. I thought it would just go out and the "lamp" light would be red. That's not what's happening though. It's just slowly over time getting darker. I've got the brightness maxed out and it's OK, but it's not the bright vibrant picture it used to be. Is it a bulb or something needing service?

I have a 60in also. Check and see if you have it set for energy saving mode. If you do this will give you a little darker screen. Take it off energy mode and it should brighten a little.
Something else that might help is to get a copy of "Pirates of the Caribbean" the first one. It has a calibrater built into it. You can use this to set your colors and things like that. Works pretty good.
If not get a new bulb. I bought a brand new one off of ebay for about 1/3 the cost. I bought mine as a spare for "just in case". So far my picture is holding up great. I have it set on the energy saving mode.
Check your numbers on the bulb and type them into search at ebay and see if you can get one.
