Should I rat my boss out?
I'm a lifeguard at an indoor pool that is used mostly by senior citizens and about two weeks ago an elderly woman, 79 to be exact, was walking on the deck when she tripped on the edge of one of the mats on the pool deck. The mat had an upturned corner that many people had complained could be a trip hazard but nothing was ever done about it till this woman fell and smashed her face into the concrete floor, breaking multiple bones and causing her some severe injuries. After the incident, my boss had me write up a report of what happened in which i stated that the woman tripped on the upturned corner of the mat. My boss approved it and then took it to the head boss who made me revise it to say that she tripped on the floor and make up a much different story so that the facility would not be liable for her injuries since it was a preexisting and known hazard.
the story they had me write isn't the truth at all and so....
heres my dilemma, should i bring up that they lied in the report to the owner of the place or should i leave it at rest? its been bothering me because i really feel like my boss is lying and he needs to own up to it and correct the report, which in fact is a police report.
So, should I tell someone?
I didnt write the false statement my boss did. she asked me to sign it and i wouldnt,
oh i did write up there that i revised it, I didn't my boss above me did. Sorry.

Well, in my opinion, everyone should do what is ethical. And the ethical thing to do would be to tell the truth. Not exactly "ratting" your boss out, but helping the poor woman who fell. If she presses charges, she deserves the money from a lawsuit to pay for her injuries. Especially since nothing was done about the problem at hand ahead of time. Your boss should have fixed the problem, and since he/she didn't, they have to, like you said, own up to it, and take responsibility for their actions.
But if you choose to not to notify the police about these mistakes, don't feel guilty about it, because you did what you could. Nothing was your fault. Its not your responsibility. You obviously cared enough to ask the people of the internet lol, so just do what you think is right.
I hope i could help you!

You did the correct factor, do not sweat it. If your boss will get grief for this she's going to realize it was once no longer your doing. You didn't volunteer know-how, you easily replied the query honestly, which is strictly what you will have performed. Now, if she'd requested you "please duvet for me if anyone calls" that might be a further tale. On Monday, earlier than she has a threat to even point out it to you, stroll into her workplace and inform her what got here down. "Joe referred to as Friday asking approximately the lead and I wasn't definite what to mention and nobody was once right here to invite... I wish it did not purpose a drawback for you... will have to I have dealt with this in a different way?" When we provoke a talk it places us within the role of strengh (in spite of an excellent) versus ready with baited breath for her to eventually say some thing to you. Good success!

Look for the lawyer of the old lady, or one of her family members and tell them if , they have a lawyer you have some information which could be material . Then tell the Lawyer exactly what you wrote here, he/she will know how to use that information, without putting you in danger.

YES, do it! He has insurance! The dirty rat! If you don't, your conscience will keep eating at you. It's bothering you now because it wants you to speak up and tell the truth. And if your boss tries to fire you because you told the truth, there are places that you can go to fight him for your job. Good luck. Do the right thing.

You are the one who is in trouble. You wrote a false statement. You provided false information to the police.
The time to do the right thing was when the incident happened, but you choose to cover it up instead. Now you are the guilty party.
