What hair straightener would you recommend?

I want to get a new hair straightener, but Im not sure which one I should go for! I really want one that will leave my hair really straight. And if I go out and its damp outside, I'd like for my hair not to frizz up. Im thinking of going for a GVP, but if anyone knows of a better brand besides CHI, please let me know.

Update:

My hair is really wavy, sometimes locks form at the ends of my hair. Whenever I use a straightener, it does get my hair sraight, but there is some areas where the waves appear.

Im mixed race, half white, half mexican. Does that really affect the way my hair is?

What type of curly hair do you have? Is it tight, like Carrot Top or a little looser like Shirley Temple, or are you African American or caucasian? Some relaxers work better on different types of hair.

(To answer your question, yes race does matter...more on a technical matter...African American hair is much tighter (generally), the cuticle is thicker, harder to penetrate (so generally a stronger relaxer is needed, and something like I use on my hair wouldn't work well enough), Asian hair also has a thicker cuticle...someone with Western European background tends to have finer hair, thus being more sensitive to harsh relaxers and it can cause breakage), people from places such as Sweden and Norway tend to have finer hair, more sensitive, thinner cuticle, and so on). So I asked that, because it's hard to give you an accurate idea of what the correct answer for you would be because you're not in my salon. (We never give exact quotes on color or relaxers on the phone, because each individual has different hair, needing a different method, giving a different result).

One thing to be clear on is that they're actually relaxers, not straighteners. Most on the market will not get your hair bone straight unless it is very damaged, or you get a Japanese or Brazilian straightening, which is costly.

As you said Chi is good...I just started using Pravana's keratin protein based relaxer (I'm a hairdresser of 18 years and someone with Justin Timberlake type hair), and that's been the most gentle, yet one of the most effective I've used. My hair is in even better condition than it was with CHI or Rusk's Curl Up. So my hair is not porous, or fluffy or frizzy.

Odd that I have two thumbs down, though I've been doing this professionally for clients, and had only happy customers for 18 years..

The GHD is awesome. My mother got me the instyler and I haven't tried it yet. So I can't recommend that one yet lol. Also the straightener doesn't prevent frizz. Only products do that. I'd recommend a good hair spray. Bed head is good and light. This should keep your hair in place. Also use some type of heat protection product. This should prevent frizz while you straighten your hair. Also get the thicker pad instead of the thinner ones. They straighten better.

    It should look like this

    Not like this

The smaller ones are suppose to be used for touch ups and styling. The larger is just to get it straight.

OMG, your dog looks JUST like mine...is he an albino pit? That's what mine is...anyways CHI really is the best, I have one and love it! I heard Sedu is good as is Solia.

Get a GHD if you've got the $$. It's the best out there.
